Rosslyn Park 26–40 Camborne

Rosslyn Park fell short against a dogged Camborne side whose power shone through to secure a 40-26 win at The Rock.
Park started the better of the two teams. After staying strong in defence, Luke Mehson intercepted on Park’s own 5-metre line to run the length of the pitch and score 23 minutes in, with Max Winter converting to make it 7-0.
Things got better for the hosts when Josh Matavesi saw yellow for a high shot, which Park capitalised on, with Ewan Fenley going over.
It would be 21-0 minutes later, with Luke Mehson claiming his second after a floating ball from Freddie Vaughan found the winger 28 minutes in.
However, Camborne found their rhythm on the half-hour mark, with Ben Priddey claiming his first of the afternoon from the back of a maul, with Fraser Honey converting.
Winger Alex Ducker then made it 21-14 heading into the sheds when some neat play on the edge put the winger in.
Park did start the second half well, with Camborne’s Ben Power receiving a yellow following a high shot, but the hosts were unable to capitalise, even dropping the ball over the try line.
The visitors defended well, and Herbie Stupple powered over from close range to score, with Honey adding the extras.
Park then regained the lead, this time Fred Davies scoring when the hosts’ maul went to work. But with the conversion missed, it was only a 26-21 lead.
Although Park worked hard in defence, eventually it was too much, and multiple penalties saw Tom Bell receive a yellow and Ben Priddey claim his second of the afternoon.
More brute force and power from the Camborne forwards saw them capitalise again, with Priddey claiming his hat-trick.
The visitors secured the win in the final minute when Frankie Nowell gathered a loose ball to score, and Honey’s boot made sure it ended 26-40.
A tough day for Park, who will be looking to bounce back when they head to Rams next weekend.
